I was doing some searching for 289 history, and I found this link with some nice photos... not old, but look good. I wonder if that is Russ behind the wheel??

Also in the photo cache is a car that looks like someone tried to convert a 427 to a 289, as it has an add shaped nose on it. Anyone know what that is all about?

Here is the link:

There are some photos before the #16 car, but you might need to go to the last page and start over... enjoy:D! I hope this isn't a reposting of something already known here:rolleyes:...

Paul This car is CSX2259 owned by Lynn Park.

The wider fenders and body mods are because it was one of the original FIA cars.

Yeah, that's the car I'm mimicking.

They won't let us replicas play at the historic races...although some do consider CSX2259 a replica ;).

But I do have a heck of a lot of fun with my car at various open track events:

That's a great website you found, Paul. A ton of really detailed and high quality photos of many cars from many different angles. Nice find - thanks for posting!!

And I took a closer look at the one car you referenced which you thought looks like a converted 427. It's the darker blue #19 Cobra with white LeMans stripes. I don't recognize that car, and I'm trying to find a Monterey entry list so I can ID the car and then look it up in the SAAC registry.

I see what you are saying though, something doesn't look quite right with either the grille or the fenders. Just a guess, but looking at the fenders, the grille, the hood scoop, and the roll bar, I'd say it's probably a slabside street car that was converted to a race car at some point in it's life. That's why the fender flares and scoop are different than the FIA or USRRC cars. As far as the grille, I don't know why it looks the way it does. Maybe he was involved in a "racing incident", and the guy who did the aluminum coachwork just didn't get the shape right?

Russ.
That is a great shot of your car charging towards the camera.
I'ha gotta admit your car has a bold impressive look about it.

Hahaha! That was taken at the Mid-America Motorplex in Pacific Junction, Iowa. The track is situated just a few hundred yards from I-29. What's funny is that traffic will sometimes slow way down as people gaze over at the cars on the track, and some folks even pull of on the shoulder to watch. State Troopers make regular passes on this little stretch, and ask roadside spectators to "please go over to the track to watch."

Thanks to all for the compliments in this thread.
