An oil cooler thermostat? I've never heard of such a thing. If you restrict the flow of oil, well......... you don't want to do that!

I just want to prevent the oil from running through the oil cooler till it hits a certain temp, ie 190 degrees or so. Since I usually don’t drive it far enough to get oil hot enough, I sometimes block off the cooling opening to raise the temp. Some “experts” say your temp should reach 200 or so degrees to keep condensation out of the oil. An oil cooler thermostat would solve the problem.

I may be missing something here, but if you block the oil flow through the oil cooler you will be buying another motor. Either cover the oil cooler or remove it.

Never used one so I’m certainly no expert, but my understanding is the thermostat simply bypasses the cooler, directing the oil from the filter to the engine and back through the filter, unless temp reaches a preprogrammed mark, then through the cooler.
